Cost Planning

Using costfact, cost planning is executed in three steps:

Step 1:
A template calculation or existing project with accordant similarities is used as the starting point of the new ship’s cost planning.

Step 2:
The cost items that differ from the model are derived from other projects whenever possible. For this purpose, single groups and whole main groups can be imported from the calculations of existing vessels. The imported values can be modified subsequently, if necessary, by manual input or by using multiplier resp. reduction factors.

Step 3:
The residual calculation objects are calculated manually.

The cost inputs and cost changes are permanently documented so that the source of each value can be reproduced at anytime.

costfact: Three steps of cost planning

The cost planning, both top down and bottom up, is carried out within the vessel’s parts list. The hierarchic structure enables the user to navigate quickly between the different levels and allows a cost planning at each of these levels, from the whole vessel down to a single part.

Additional cost planning functions of costfact are:

  • Controlling of target cost attainment

  • Calculation transfer between existing building group systems and other calculation structures

  • Cost information consolidation from various software systems

The process of cost planning is also supported by the specification module of costfact. This module provides the following benefits:

  • Structured and simplified specification creation through system support

  • The ability to verify whether costs have been planned for specified components

  • The ability to identify costs for which no specifications have been defined

The video "Specification Import" shows the automatic import and structuring of specifications from Word-files to costfact (German language).
